Chicago Climate Futures Exchange Announces Record Volume For March 2009

Chicago Climate Futures Exchange® (CCFE®), a whollyowned subsidiary of Chicago Climate Exchange® (CCX®), announced record trading volume for March. CCFE has traded 60,676 contracts month-to-date as compared to the previous record of 56,429 contracts in the entire month of February 2009. This record month has been achieved in 13 trading days, with CCFE volumes recording an average of 4,667 contracts per day.

Futures and options on Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (“RGGI”) contract, launched in August 2008, have already traded a record 20,012 futures and options contracts in March of 2009 compared with 14,870 contracts in February of 2009. Additionally, a record 18,852 Nitrogen Financial InstrumentTM – Annual (“NFITM-A”) futures and options contracts have traded this month, bringing the year-to-date total NFI-A volume to 44,892 contracts as compared with 28,230 NFI-A contracts for all of 2008.

Also, 1,126 IFEX futures have traded in March, representing a 4,404% increase over the 25 IFEX futures traded in February 2009.
