Charter Financial Corporation To Join NASDAQ Financial-100 Index Beginning February 18, 2004

Charter Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:CHFN) of West Point, Georgia, will become a component of the NASDAQ Financial-100 Index® effective at the beginning of trading Wednesday, February 18, 2004. Charter Financial Corporation will replace The Bank of Bermuda Limited (NASDAQ:BBDA).

With the market capitalization of $791 million, Charter Financial Corporation is a savings and loan holding company and the parent company of CharterBank, a full-service community bank and a federal savings institution. CharterBank is headquartered in West Point, Georgia, and operates eight full-service branches on the I-85 corridor from LaGrange, Georgia, to Auburn, Alabama. CharterBank's deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
