Channel Islands Stock Exchange Designation By UK Financial Services Authority

Date 07/01/2004

The Board of the Channel Islands Stock Exchange (CISX/Exchange) is pleased to announce that the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) has designated the CISX as a Designated Investment Exchange (DIE), with effect from 1 February 2004.

The designation follows an application made by the CISX for consideration by the FSA for DIE status within the meaning of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. The FSA' s decision follows a detailed assessment of the Exchange including its organisation and structure, its rules and regulatory framework.

Mr Harry Taylor CBE, Chairman of the CISX says, "The FSA designation is a significant milestone and one which further enhances the Exchange's competitive position. Coming soon after the US SEC designation and UK Inland Revenue recognition announced last year, this designation confirms the CISX's international standing and is yet another endorsement of Guernsey as a reputable, international finance centre."

Ms Tamara Menteshvili, Chief Executive of the CISX says, "This is an important development for the Exchange which will raise our profile internationally. It also further signifies our commitment to the highest of regulatory standards and business practice."
