Changes In The Calculation Of Hex25 And HEXTech Stock Indices

Date 09/06/2003

HEX has decided to make the following changes in the calculation method of HEX25 and HEXTech stock indices:
  • an index constituent will be removed from the index value calculation, if a public tender offer or redemption offer or a demand for redemption has been issued regarding it.

  • < the definition of special dividends is narrowed so that normal cash dividends will be treated as special dividends only for the part that they exceed 10 % of the stock price. However, irrespective of the aforementioned, any dividend from non-operating income will continue to be treated as special dividend.

  • the half-yearly restructuring and quarterly rebalancing procedures of the index will be based on volume-weighted average prices. This applies for the stock classes which will be included in the index or removed from it as well as for the stock classes that are in the index before and after the restructuring or rebalancing. At present, only the stock classes to be included in or removed from the index have been handled with volume-weighted average prices, whereas the stock classes which are in the index before and after the rebalancing have been handled with official closing prices.

The changes are based on initiatives from the market participants and they are expected to enhance trading in the HEX25 futures and options at Eurex.

HEX25 Stock Index is a capitalisation weighted stock price index. It is calculated on a continuous basis from the most recent prices of the 25 most traded stock classes that are listed on the Helsinki Exchanges' Main list. Options (OFOX) and futures (FFOX) on HEX25 Stock Index are traded at Eurex. As the blue chip index for the Finnish market, HEX25 gains international visibility as a benchmark for the Finnish market.

HEXTech Stock Index is a capitalisation weighted stock price index. It is calculated on a continuous basis from the most recent prices of the 10 most traded technology stock classes that are listed on the Helsinki Exchanges. Options and futures on HEXTech Stock Index are traded at HEX. As an index for the most actively traded Finnish technology stocks, HEXTech is a benchmark for Finnish technology stock portfolios.

The changes will enter into force on 1 October.
