Chairman Of Futures For Kids Granted Freedom Of City Of London

Date 28/03/2013

Bill Templer, Chairman of Futures for Kids (FFK), the London-based charity foundation which raises funds through the futures industry for various children's charities around the world was granted Freedom of the City of London on Wednesday in a ceremony at Guildhall.

One of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies still in existence today, it is believed that the first Freedom was presented in 1237.

According to the City of London website, the medieval term 'freeman' meant someone who was not the property of a feudal lord but enjoyed privileges such as the right to earn money and own land.

FFK trustees and supporters in attendance were disappointed to find that the honour no longer confers the right to drive sheep across London Bridge as it is felt that considerable traffic disruption would ensue. However, it is a well deserved recognition of the considerable efforts of Bill, the team of trustees and FFK supporters in bringing the charity to the notice of City institutions and the broader public.
