Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero, sponsor of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Technology Advisory Committee (TAC), today announced the TAC will meet July 18, following the TAC’s inaugural March 22 meeting. The meeting will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (EDT) at the CFTC’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. The public will be able to watch the live meeting via webcast at CFTC.gov
“With technology integrated throughout financial markets and the Commission facing emerging technology issues, I am excited for the Commission to hear from technology experts serving on the Technology Advisory Committee” said Commissioner Goldsmith Romero. “We will continue our examination of responsible artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on the use of AI in the financial sector. Decentralized finance (DeFi) models such as decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) and the Commission’s recent Ooki DAO case will be discussed, in addition to other DeFi issues. We will also discuss cyber resilience, including cyber threats to the financial sector, as well as a presentation by a prudential regulator on the recently released interagency guidance on third party cyber risk. I am grateful for the service of TAC members and look forward to an informed discussion of their diverse viewpoints.”
Along with artificial intelligence, decentralized finance, and cyber resilience, the TAC will introduce the three subcommittees approved by the Commission. This includes the newly constituted subcommittees on: (1) Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology; and (2) Emerging and Evolving Technologies; as well as the re-established (3) Cybersecurity Subcommittee.
A formal agenda will be announced before the meeting.
