CFTC Announces The Appointment Of Nanette R. Everson As General Counsel

Date 03/10/2005

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced today the appointment of Nanette R. Everson as General Counsel effective October 2, 2005.

Ms. Everson comes to the CFTC from the White House where she served as Associate Counsel to the President, engaging in strategic counseling of senior White House, department, and agency appointees concerning ethics compliance, conflicts of interest, corporate governance, professional conduct, and financial disclosure laws. Prior to her White House appointment, Ms. Everson practiced in the trial department of Baker Botts, LLP, concentrating on securities and intellectual property matters. Prior to that, she was a partner in the Chicago law firm, McBride Baker & Coles (currently Holland & Knight).

In announcing the appointment of Ms. Everson, CFTC Chairman Jeffery said, “I have had the pleasure of working with Nanette previously, and with her broad legal background, the Commission is extremely fortunate to have her as its General Counsel. As the futures industry continues to experience rapid growth and increased globalization, I believe it is critical for the Commission to have someone of her caliber as its legal advisor.”

Ms. Everson received her undergraduate degree in 1977 from Yale University (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude) and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1980.

After graduating from law school, Ms. Everson held a federal judicial clerkship with the Honorable Thomas A. Clark, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Following her clerkship, Ms. Everson served the Reagan Administration in senior executive service posts in the Justice and Interior Departments.
