Mr. McCarty received his B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Virginia in June 1980, and his Juris Doctor degree from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America in June 1986.
In announcing the appointment of Mr. McCarty, Chairman Newsome said, "The Commission is very fortunate to have Pat, with his broad legal and financial background, as our General Counsel. I look forward to working with him as the Commission strives to fulfill its regulatory responsibilities."
As legal advisor to the Commission, the Office of General Counsel (OGC) reviews all substantive regulatory, legislative, and administrative matters presented to the Commission. OGC also advises the Commission on the application and interpretation of the Commodity Exchange Act and other administrative statutes.
