CFIE Postpones June Symposium On Corporate Governance In Toronto

Date 25/04/2003

Due to the public reaction to Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and impact this anxiety is having on conferences scheduled to be held in Toronto, the Canadian Foundation for Investor Education (CFIE) has decided to postpone its planned symposium on June 6th in Toronto.

"We have decided to postpone the symposium until a time when public anxiety is reduced," said Ralph McLeod, Chair of the CFIE. "While we continue to believe that the risks posed by SARS are very low, public and international reaction to the phenomenon has constrained our ability to put on an effective event. We still believe the issue of corporate governance is important and we are keen to explore it at a later date."

The planned international symposium on corporate governance and competitiveness sponsored by TSX Group, was to be held in Toronto on Friday, June 6, 2003. The one-day event, entitled "Competing Globally, Regulating Nationally: Competitive Governance in a Global Market," is hosted by the Canadian Foundation for Investor Education (CFIE), in association with the University of Alberta School of Business.
