Trading volume during November totaled 53,174 contracts, a decline of 72 percent from November 2007, the busiest month in CFE history when an all-time record of 189,408 contracts traded.When compared to the volume of 124,289 contracts traded during the previous month, which contained four additional trading days, November 2008 trading volume was down 57 percent.During November 2008, average daily volume was 2,798 contracts traded.
Monthly volume in VIX futures, based on the CBOE Volatility Index (ticker VX), totaled 52,335 contracts, down 56 percent from the 120,280 contracts traded in October 2008.Average daily volume in VIX futures during November 2008 was 2,754 contracts, compared to 5,229 contracts per day last month.
