One year after the start of trading on the spot market, the derivatives market of the CEGH Gas Exchange of the Vienna Stock Exchange started operation today. It now offers customers a one-stop-shop concept that is unique in Europe: over-the-counter trading services (OTC, off-floor) as well as services for trading on the exchange.
This marks another achievement of CEGH in its function as a major international hub and gateway to gas trading in Central and Eastern Europe. For the market, this means more competition and the advance of liberalization.
The Central European Gas Hub is already established as one of the largest OTC gas trading platforms on Continental Europe and offers customers simplified access to gas trading. The gas volumes traded by the more than 110 registered participants are around 33 billion m³ today. Therefore, four times as much gas will be traded on the CEGH this year than consumed by all of Austria in one year. With the start of the derivatives market of the CEGH Gas Exchange of the Vienna Stock Exchange, trading volumes on the CEGH will continue to grow.
