CBOT'S September Volume At 18,365,836 Contracts

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today trading volume of 18,365,836 contracts for September 1999. September Highlights Included: CBOT volume reached more than one million contracts per day on 6 of the 21 trading days in September Total exchange month-end open interest: 4,896,789 CBOT average daily volume: 874,564 Project A® monthly total: 924,442, up 25.0% from August 1999; Project A average daily volume: 44,021. Electronic Order Routing:Year-to-date, more than 1.4 million customer orders have been entered into broker ECs; more than 462,000 of those orders were filled. The volume of orders sent is more than 450% greater than year-to-date 1998. Year-to-date, more than 5.9 million contracts have been entered into broker ECs; more than 2.6 million contracts have been filled. The volume of contracts sent is 250% greater than year to-date 1998. Daily statistics (September 15) indicate that 17% of all futures orders are filled using broker ECs, including 22% of agricultural orders and 10% of financial orders. Also, 5% of all futures volume (contracts) are filled using broker ECs, including 9% of agricultural contracts and 3% of financial contracts. 1999 record high percentage of weekly orders filled by brokers using electronic order routing devices: 20% Corn; 24% Wheat; 18% Soybeans; 19% Soymeal; 67% Oats; 12% Front Month Bonds; 12% Front Month DJIAsm. More than 1/3 of the 950 floor brokers can be sent electronic orders. Approximately 1/3 of the 10,000 daily electronically routed orders originates from Internet order management systems linked to the CBOT via APIs. CBOT Seat Sales: CBOT Full membership last traded at $535,000 as of September 28, 1999; CBOT Associate membership last traded at $180,000 as of September 30, 1999; CBOT Commodity options membership interest last traded at $49,500 as of September 22, 1999; CBOT IDEM membership interest last traded at $28,000 as of September 9, 1999. Financial Futures and Options: Ten-Year Treasury note futures were up 7.1% YTD at 26,325,402; Thirty-Day Fed Funds futures were up 22.4% YTD at 737,141. Stock Index Futures and Options: CBOT® DJIASM futures were up 12.7% from August 1999 at 386,452, and up 8.8% YTD at 2,992,583. Agricultural Futures and Options: Wheat futures were up 12.7% from September 1998 at 536,014 and up 22.2% YTD at 5,138,261; Soybean futures were up 4.5% from September 1998 at 902,972 and up 3.5% YTD at 9,611,672; Soybean Meal futures were up 12.8% from September 1998 at 568,859.
