CBOT'S October Volume At 18,880,893 Contracts

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today trading volume of 18,880,893 contracts for October 1999, up 2.8% from September 1999.
October Highlights Included: CBOT volume reached more than one million contracts per
day on 5 of the 21 trading days in October ; Total exchange month-end open interest: 5,327,013; CBOT average daily volume: 899,090; Project A® monthly total: 1,021,520; Project A average daily volume: 48,644; 30-Day Fed Funds set a daily volume record on October 5, at 16,253; Rough Rice options set a monthly volume record of 8,645 Wheat futures set a daily open interest record on October 28, at 140,921; Rough Rice options set a daily open interest record on October 20, at 10,550; 10-Year T-Note futures set a daily open interest record on October 26, at 701,289 .
Electronic Order Routing: Year-to-date, more than 1.7 million customer orders have been entered into broker ECs; more than 538,000 of those orders were filled. The volume of orders sent is 340% greater than year-to-date 1998. Year-to-date, more than 6.9 million contracts have been entered into broker ECs; more than 3.5 million contracts have been filled. The volume of contracts sent is 240% greater than year-to-date 1998. Monthly records were set for orders entered/filled and contracts entered/filled. 257,397 orders were electronically entered; 76,383 filled. 1,010,432 contracts were electronically entered; 440,044 were filled. Daily statistics on October 27 show that 21% of all futures orders were filled using broker ECs, including 27% of agricultural orders and 10% of financial orders. Also, 6% of all futures volume (contracts) were filled using broker ECs, including 10% of agricultural contracts and 3% of financial contracts. Daily volume records were set on October 26 for most orders entered electronically--15,686 and most orders filled electronically--5,579. Daily volume record was set on October 1 for most contracts entered electronically; 61,976. The most active firm had 1,880 orders filled via broker ECs on a single day, a record set on October 8. More than 1/3 of the 950 floor brokers can be sent electronic orders. Approximately 1/3 of the 14,000 daily electronically routed orders originates from Internet order management systems linked to the CBOT via APIs.
CBOT Seat Sales: CBOT Full membership last traded at $450,000 as of October 29, 1999; CBOT Associate membership last traded at $135,000 as of November 1, 1999; CBOT Commodity options membership interest last traded at $46,000 as of October 26, 1999; CBOT IDEM membership interest last traded at $33,000 as of October 27, 1999.
Financial Futures and Options: Ten-Year Treasury note futures were up 4.9%
year-to-date (YTD) at 28,796,286; Five-Year Treasury note futures were up 20.4% from
September 1999 at 1,245,155 ; Thirty-Day Fed Funds futures were up 3.0% from
September 1999 and up 10.1% from October 1998 at 112,697, and up 20.6% YTD at 849,838; U.S. Treasury bond options were up 20.9% from September 1999 at 2,698,430.
Stock Index Futures and Options: CBOT® DJIASM futures were up 10.1% from October 1998 at 379,551, and up 9.0% YTD at 3,372,134.
Agricultural Futures and Options: Wheat futures were up 17.4% YTD at 5,575,950; Soybean futures were up 28.3% from September 1999 at 1,158,611; Rough Rice futures were up 74.5% from September 1999 at 15,113.
