CBOT's November Volume At 19,818,308 Contracts

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today trading volume of 19,818,308 contracts for November 1999, up 5.0% from October 1999. CBOT volume reached more than one million contracts per day on 10 of the 21 trading days in November. Total exchange month-end open interest: 4,046,640. CBOT average daily volume: 943,729. Project A® monthly total: 865,665; Project A average daily volume: 41,222. 30 -Day Fed Fund futures set a daily volume record on November 16, at 17,366. Wheat futures set a daily volume record on November 29, at 74,476. Wheat futures set a daily open interest record on November 17, at 146,083. Rough Rice options set a daily open interest record on November 30, at 14,444. Corn futures set a daily volume record on November 29, at 186,201. Year-to-date, more than 1.9 million customer orders have been entered into broker ECs; more than 604,000 of those orders were filled. The volume of orders sent is 307% greater than year-to-date 1998. Year-to-date, more than 7.8 million contracts have been entered into broker ECs; more than 3.4 million contracts have been filled. The volume of contracts sent is 244% greater than year-to-date 1998. Daily statistics on November 10 show that 21% of all futures orders were filled using broker ECs, including 29% of agricultural orders and 11% of financial orders. Also, 6% of all futures volume (contracts) were filled using broker ECs, including 12% of agricultural contracts and 3% of financial contracts. Daily volume records were set on November 10 for most contracts entered electronically, 63,120, and most contracts filled electronically, 34,978. The most active firm had 15,393 contracts filled via broker ECs on a single day, a record set on November 5. CBOT Full membership last traded at $415,000 as of December 2, 1999. Two-Year Treasury Note futures were up 182.2% from October 1999 at 123,976. Thirty-Day Fed Fund futures were up 17.6% from November 1998 at 101,644, and up 20.3% YTD at 951,482. Municipal Bond Index futures were up 6.3% from October 1999 at 56,785. CBOT® DJIASM futures were up 18.6% from November 1998 at 266,193, and up 9.6% YTD at 3,638,327. Wheat futures were up 40.2% from October 1999 and up 13.7% from November 1998 at 613,633, and up 17.1% YTD at 6,189,583. Corn futures were up 36.9% from October 1999 and up 23.3% from November 1998 at 1,500,856. Oat futures were up 160.2% from October 1999 at 42,029. Soybean Meal futures were up 11.9% from October 1999 and up 9.8% from November 1998 at 572,194. Soybean Oil futures were up 25.8% from October 1999 and up 10.4% from November 1998 at 497,090. Rough Rice futures were up 4.8% from October 1999 and up 181.9% from November 1998 at 15,841.
