CBOT's May Volume At 24,541,588 Contracts, Up 25.4% From April

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today trading volume of 24,541,598 contracts for May 1999, up 25.4% from April 1999 and up 11.2% from May 1998. Volume for the first five months of 1999 was 113,461,056. May Highlights Included: CBOT volume reached more than one million contracts per day on 15 of the 20 trading days in May; CBOT average daily volume: 1,227,079 contracts; Project A® monthly total: 892,444, up 4.3% from April 1999 and up 10.2% from May 1998; Project A average daily volume: 44,622 contracts. CBOT Full membership last traded at $595,000 as of May 28, 1999; CBOT Associate membership last traded at $232,500 as of May 20, 1999; CBOT Commodity options membership interest last traded at $58,000 as of May 20, 1999; CBOT IDEM membership interest last traded at $35,500 as of May 19, 1999. U.S. Treasury bond futures were up 32.8% from April 1999 and up 5.5% from May 1998 at 9,555,751. Ten-Year Treasury note futures were up 64.0% from April 1999 and up 30.5% from May 1998 at 3,519,269, and up 11.5% year-to-date (YTD) at 14,489,572; Five-Year Treasury note futures were up 71.0% from April 1999 and up 48.8% from May 1998 at 1,906,427, and up 4.0% YTD at 7,031,291. Two-Year Treasury note futures were up 107.4% from April 1999 at 132,319. U.S. Treasury bond options were up 35.5% from April 1999 and up 29.6% from May 1998 at 3,830,318, and up 9.8% YTD at 17,304,828. CBOT® DJIASM futures were up 40.4% from May 1998 at 364,532, and up 20.5% YTD at 1,618,278. Wheat futures were up 2.9% from May 1998 at 444,696 and up 22.5% YTD at 2,738,254. Wheat options were up 11.4% YTD at 601,697.
