CBOT'S July Volume At 21,428,907 Contracts, Up 4.1% From 1998

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today trading volume of 21,428,907 contracts for July 1999, up 4.1 % from July 1998. July Highlights Included: CBOT volume reached more than one million contracts per day on 11 of the 21 trading days in July. Total exchange month-end open interest: 5,560,340, up 6.9% from June 1999. CBOT average daily volume: 1,020,424, up 9.0% from July 1998. Project A® monthly total: 957,084, up 3.4% from July 1998 and up13.6% year-to-date (YTD) at 7,075,594 contracts; Project A average daily volume: 45,575. Soybean options set a monthly volume record at 839,291 1,032,278 customer orders were electronically sent directly to floor brokers in the trading pits using electronic order receipt devices, year-to-date. Of that number, 324,402 orders were filled. The volume of orders sent is 607% greater than year-to-date 1998. Those orders represented 4,126,851 contracts that were sent to brokers using electronic order receipt devices, year-to-date. Orders filled represented 1,814,262 contracts. The volume of contracts sent is 414% greater than year-to-date 1998. Overall, 13% of July cleared futures orders were filled by brokers using electronic order receipt devices. That statistic is comprised of 18% of agricultural orders and 6% of financial orders. Electronic Order Routing set daily volume records on July 22 with 4,708 orders filled of the 12,255 orders entered, and 21,733 contracts filled of the 46,667 contracts entered; 20% of total Agricultural orders were filled. 1999 record high percentages of agricultural orders were filled by brokers using electronic order routing devices were: 29% Front Month Corn; 28% Front Month Wheat; 22% Front Month Soybeans, 14% All Soymeal; and 67% All Oats. CBOT Full membership last traded at $562,500 as of July 28, 1999. CBOT Associate membership last traded at $195,000 as of August 2, 1999. CBOT Commodity options membership interest last traded at $50,000 as of July 30, 1999. CBOT IDEM membership interest last traded at $28,000 as of July 30, 1999. Ten-Year Treasury note futures were up 43.1% from July 1998 at 2,438,495, and up 15.5% YTD at 20,081,102. Five-Year Treasury note futures were up 23.6% from July 1998 at1,166.336, and up 7.3% YTD at 9,741,480. Thirty-Day Fed Fund futures were up 108.6% from July 1998 at 78,912 and up 31.1% YTD at 510,343. CBOT® DJIASM futures volume was 279,581, and up 13.1% YTD at 2,263,288. Wheat futures were up 30.4% from July 1998 at 523,516 and up 21.6% YTD at 3,936,350. Corn futures were up 6.9% from June 1999 and up 20.7% from July 1998 at 1,707,950. Oat futures were up 19.9% July 1998 at 35,812. Soybean futures were up 30.7% from June 1999 and up 16.8% from July 1998 at 1,502,472.
