CBOT'S February Volume At 25,369,025 Contracts--Second Highest February Total In Exchange History

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today trading volume of 25,369,025 contracts for February 2000, up 11.2% from January 2000. February volume was the second highest February total in exchange history. February Highlights Included: CBOT volume reached more than one million contracts per day on 14 of the 20 trading days in February; Total exchange month-end open interest: 4,412,841; CBOT average daily volume: 1,268,451; Project A® monthly total: 1,062,620; Project A average daily volume: 53,131; Thirty-Day Fed Funds set a daily volume record on February 2, at 18,887; Ten-Year Treasury Note futures set a monthly volume record at 4,576,977; Five-Year Treasury Note futures set a monthly volume record at 2,740,730; Five-Year Treasury Note futures set a daily open interest record on February 9, at 510,612 ; Oat options set a daily open interest record on February 15, at 12,802. For the first two months of 2000, record percentage of futures orders were filled by brokers using electronic order receipt devices: 18% total, including 24% agricultural orders and 12% financial orders. Monthly contract records were set for orders electronically filled by brokers: 27% soybean meal, 24% soybeans, 19% front month bonds, 16% front month DJIAsm. Year-to-date, 546,408 orders have been electronically routed to floor brokers of which 184,133 were filled. This represents an increase of 146% and 177%, respectively, over year-to-date 1999. Year-to-date, 2,235,447 contracts have been electronically routed to floor brokers of which 1,125,530 were filled. This represents an increase of 151% and 180%, respectively, over year-to-date 1999. 90 electronic order receipt devices were used by floor brokers filling orders for 26 member firms. This represents an increase of 76% over the number of broker devices used in February 1999. CBOT Full membership last traded at $520,000 as of February 14, 2000; CBOT Associate membership last traded at $146,000 as of March 1, 2000; CBOT Commodity options membership interest last traded at $29,500 as of February 28, 2000; CBOT IDEM membership interest last traded at $16,500 as of March 1, 2000. U.S. Treasury bond futures were up 2.4% from January 2000 at 8,157,436; Ten-Year Treasury Note futures were up 39.9% from January 2000 and up 39.7% from February 1999 at 4,974,650; Five-Year Treasury Note futures were up 59.6% from January 2000 and up 85.0% from February 1999 at 2,873,782; Five-Year Treasury Note options were up 12.4% from January 2000 and up 61.8% from February 1999 at 381,678; Two-Year Treasury Note futures were up 209.3% from January 2000 and up 23.5% from February 1999 at 159,409; Thirty-Day Fed Fund futures were up 35.6% from January 2000 and up 226.6% from February 1999 at 115,884; Municipal Bond Index futures were up 27.1% from January 2000 at 56,385. CBOT® DJIASM futures were up 5.8% from January 2000 and up 29.9% from February 1999 at 340,483; CBOT DJIA options were up 84.8% from February 1999 at 23,138. Corn futures were up 5.2% from January 2000 and up 15.0% from February 1999 at 1,580,931; Corn options were up 75.1% from February 1999 at 357,319; Soybean futures were up 2.6% from January 2000 and up 7.2% from February 1999 at 1,099,272; Wheat futures were up 48.0% from January 2000 and up 15.7% from February 1999 at 691,068; Soybean Meal futures were up 18.1% from January 2000 and up 5.5% from February 1999 at 537,527; Soybean Oil futures were up 6.5% from January 2000 at 451,677; Oat futures were up 60.1% from January 2000 and up 21.4% from February 1999 at 43,332; Rough Rice futures were up 28.0% from January 2000 at 16,135.
