CBOT's Electronic Trading Platform Surpasses 1 Million Contracts

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today that volume on its electronic trading platform set a new daily volume record on July 24, trading more than one million contracts during a single trading day for the first time since the platform's launch less than two years ago. The CBOT® traded a total of 2,480,402 contracts yesterday, the third largest single day volume in its history.

Yesterday, 1,095,696 contracts on the exchange's electronic trading platform changed hands, breaking the previous record of 899,080 contracts, set on June 26, 2002.

Daily volume records also were set on the electronic trading platform in the 30-year Treasury Bond, Ten-year Treasury Note, and Five-year Treasury Note futures contracts. The 30-year Bond traded 268,615 contracts, breaking the former record of 251,543 set on July 11, 2002. The Ten-year T-note futures and Five-year T-note futures traded 542,830 contracts and 252,426, respectively, surpassing the former records of 429,337, and 207,991, both set on June 26, 2002.

Trading exclusively on the exchange's electronic trading platform is the CBOT® ($5) Mini-sized DowSM contracts, which began on April 5, 2002. As part of its ongoing success in this product, the CBOT® has designated today, Thursday, July 25, 2002, as "Trade the Mini-Sized ($5) Dow Day at the CBOT."

All futures equity product traders and CBOT® members are being urged to take 15 minutes from their normal market activity today to help continue building the CBOT® volume in this growing electronically traded market.
