CBOT Wheat Contracts Set New Daily Volume Record - Follows Surge In Agricultural Trading Volume In July

The Chicago Board of Trade announced today a new daily volume record for wheat futures contracts. On August 2, 1999, CBOT members traded 71,471 contracts, surpassing the former record of 66,228 set on June 29, 1999.
Additionally, the CBOT announced agricultural trading volume of 6,978,891 contracts for July 1999, up 24% from June 1999 and up 21% from July last year.
The July 1999 highlights follow: Soybean futures were up 30.7% from June 1999 and up 16.8% from July 1998 at 1,502,472 contracts. Soybean options were up 110.2% from June 1999 and up 66.2% from July 1998 at 839,291 contracts.
Corn futures were up 6.9% from June 1999 and up 20.7% from July 1998 at 1,707,950 contracts. Corn options were up 99.4% from June 1999 and up 47.9% from July 1998 at 800,478 contracts.
Wheat futures were up 30.4% from July 1998 at 523,516 contracts. Wheat options were up 50.5% from June 1999 and up 14.9% from July 1998 at 144,503 contracts.
Also, Project A, CBOT's electronic trading platform, July agriculture volume set a new record. A total of 101,800 contracts were traded, surpassing the former record of 61,224 contracts set in July 1998.
