CBOT Fed Funds Options Open Interest Surpasses 1 Million To New Record

Date 30/06/2005

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) today announced that CBOT 30-Day Fed Funds options open interest reached an all-time record of 1,041,977 contracts on June 29, surpassing the one million mark for the first time. This new peak in open interest is the fourth consecutive session of record-setting activity for the contract.

CBOT President and CEO Bernard W. Dan said, “We are very pleased to reach this significant milestone in open interest just two years after the Fed Funds options were launched in March 2003. The marketplace has quickly embraced Fed Funds options as a useful risk management tool for the short end of the yield curve. Further, the highly liquid contract complements the Exchange’s diverse product range and its benchmark Interest Rate futures complex.”

Fed Funds options open interest has expanded in the last year, rising 51.4 percent. Further, Fed Funds options average daily volume year-to-date is 23,433 contracts, a 66.7 percent increase over the same period last year.
