CBOT Fed Funds, Mortgage Futures Again Set Open Interest Highs

The Chicago Board of Trade 30-Day Fed Funds futures contract set another in a string of open interest records-the eighth new high in May--as the contract becomes increasingly popular in the investment community. The new open interest record now stands at 117,133 contracts as of May 30, up from the previous record of 115,364, set May 29.

Mortgage Futures also set another open interest record on May 30, at 3,675 contracts, as the trading community begins to embrace this new hedging instrument. The old record was 3,230 contracts reached May 29.

In addition, Five-Year Treasury Note futures posted a record volume of 43,292 contracts on the a/c/e electronic platform on May 29, 2001. The previous high was 37,491 set May 11.
