CBOT Enhances Its Electronic Trading Platform

Date 29/11/2004

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced that today it implemented several performance enhancements to its premier electronic trading platform to improve efficiency and increase trading opportunities for CBOT market users.

The CBOT’s electronic trading platform, powered by LIFFE CONNECT, was successfully launched earlier this year. Since then, electronic trading volume has grown substantially. Trading on the CBOT’s electronic platform increased 43.6 percent year-to-date through October 2004. The CBOT’s electronic trading platform is accessible globally and features unparalleled speed and functionality for trading the exchange’s diverse range of products.

CBOT Chief Operating Officer Bryan Durkin said, “The CBOT’s superior electronic trading platform allows customers to execute futures and futures-options trades in the most efficient manner possible. These new technology upgrades give CBOT platform users additional key advantages, including increased functionality, and even greater flexibility and efficiency in processing their trades.” Upgrades to the CBOT’s electronic trading platform include the following:

  • Automated enforcement of daily price limits, which will aid in market monitoring and in preventing trade errors.
  • Technical enhancements for processing and distributing prices and market data, which support the CBOT’s position as a leading provider of market data.
  • Enhanced software that optimizes the overall performance and reinforces the reliability of the trading platform. These enhancements are geared toward accelerating the processing and completion of trades, particularly during volatile, active markets.
  • The implementation of multiple trading algorithms within a product, giving the exchange the flexibility to determine the most efficient manner of matching trades based on the demographics and characteristics of each market.

The CBOT electronic platform’s trading hours, Sunday through Friday Central Time, are as follows: CBOT Agricultural products, 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m; CBOT Precious Metals Complex, 7:16 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; CBOT Treasury products, 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m; CBOT mini-sized Dow SM futures and options, 7:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; DJIASM futures and options, 7:15 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. For more information on the CBOT and its electronic trading platform, please visit the exchange’s Website at www.cbot.com.
