CBOT Corn Futures Contract Sets Volume Record - Friday’s Daily Volume Bests Previous Record By More Than 17,000 Contracts

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) announced today that its Corn futures contracts achieved a new record on Friday, March 31. The Exchange’s Corn futures trading volume was 331,455 contracts, eclipsing the previous record of 314,154 set on February 25, 2005.

In March 2006, volume increases in CBOT Corn futures and options contracts contributed to a successful quarter for the Exchange’s Agricultural complex. For the quarter, ADV for CBOT Corn futures climbed to 147,334 contracts, up 40 percent over the first quarter in the prior year. Corn options also fared well in the first quarter, with ADV reaching 28,903 contracts, also a 40 percent improvement over the first quarter of 2005.
