CBOT® Contract Volume Tops Two Million In First Month Of Trading On A/C/E - 30-Year Treasury Bond Contract Surpasses One Million Mark

In just one month, CBOT® members traded more than two million contracts on the new electronic trading platform a/c/e, alliance/cbot/eurex, the Chicago Board of Trade reported today. As of yesterday, overall a/c/e volume reached 2,107,166 contracts, with the average daily trading volume on a/c/e rising to 95,780 contracts. Contract volume on a/c/e exceeded one million contracts after only 12 days.

The 30-Year U.S. Treasury bond futures contract was the most heavily traded product on a/c/e in its first month, trading 1,010,080 contracts. The average daily volume for the T-bond contract was 45,913. In addition, average daily volume for 10-year Treasury note futures was pegged at 40,010 contracts, while the 5-year Treasury note futures was 8,235 contracts.

Since the launch on August 27th, 84 CBOT® member firms are able to trade all CBOT® products on the a/c/e platform. The second phase of the alliance, scheduled to be launched in fourth quarter 2000, will include an additional 60-80 members and member firms who presently are being connected to the system.
