CBOT Christmas And New Year's Day Holiday Trading Schedule

The Chicago Board of Trade has established the following trading schedule in connection with the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays:

Thursday, Dec. 23

  • Open auction:  Agricultural and Financial contracts will close at 12:00 p.m.  (Mini-sized ag contracts will close at 12:30 p.m.)  Stock Index contracts will close at 3:15 p.m.
  • Electronic trading: Dow/AIG Commodity Index contracts will close at 12:00 p.m.  Financial and Metals contracts will close at 12:30 p.m.  All other electronic trading will close at its normal times.
  • Overnight electronic trading will be closed.

Friday, Dec. 24

  • All trading will be closed. 

Sunday, Dec. 26

  • Overnight electronic trading will be open.

Thursday, Dec. 30

  • Open auction:  Agricultural contracts will close at 12:00 p.m.  (Mini-sized ag contracts will close at 12:30 p.m.)  Financial and Stock Index contracts will close at their normal times.
  • Electronic trading:  Dow/AIG Commodity Index contracts will close at 12:00 p.m.  Metals contracts will close at 12:30 p.m.  All other electronic trading will close at its normal times.
  • Overnight electronic trading for Agricultural and Metals contracts will be closed.  All other overnight electronic trading will observe normal trading schedules.

*Friday, Dec. 31

  • Open auction:  Agricultural contracts will be closed.  Financial contracts will close at 12:00 p.m.  Stock Index contracts will close at 3:15 p.m.
  • Electronic trading:  Agricultural, Dow-AIG and Metals contracts will remain closed.  Financial contracts will close at 12:30 p.m.  Stock Index contracts will close at their normal times.

Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005

  • Overnight electronic trading will be open.

Monday, Jan. 3, 2005

  • All contracts will open and observe normal trading schedules.

*Notwithstanding the above, Friday, December 31, will not be considered a business or trading day for the purpose of determining contract critical dates in any Financial contracts with the exception of 30-Day Fed Fund contracts.  Previously published Exchange schedules for Financial futures expirations and deliveries will remain in effect (except for 30-Day Fed Fund contracts) as follows:

  • the last trading day for expiring 5-Year T-Note, 10-Year T-Note, Treasury Bond and 10-Year Municipal Index futures will remain Monday, December 20, 2004.
  • the last delivery date for expiring 5-Year T-Note, 10-Year T-Note and Treasury Bond futures will remain Thursday, December 30, 2004.
  • the last trading day for expiring 2-Year T-Note futures will remain Thursday, December 30, 2004 and the last delivery day for these contracts will remain Wednesday, January 5, 2005.
  • the last trading day for expiring 30-Day Fed Fund futures and options will be Friday, December 31, 2004 (closing time 12:00 p.m.)

Friday, December 31, 2004 will be a permissible expiration date for Flexible Treasury options.  Normal settlement procedures will be followed for the Financial and Equity complexes on Friday, December 31, 2004. Normal exercise deadlines and exercise procedures will be in effect for all option positions expiring on that day.
