CBOT® Announces The Promotion Of Bryan T. Durkin To Executive Vice President And Chief Operating Officer

Date 18/12/2003

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) today announced the promotion of Bryan T. Durkin from Senior Vice President to a newly created position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this new role, Durkin will have management responsibilities for all of the Exchange's trading operations, both screen-based and open auction.

CBOT President and CEO Bernard Dan said, "Bryan has done an outstanding job during his tenure at the Exchange. His accomplishments at the CBOT are a result of a formidable combination of leadership abilities--an extensive knowledge of our business; exceptional management skills; and an incredible rapport with our members, customers, and staff. With this expanded role in the operational and business aspects of the Exchange, I have every confidence that Bryan will play an even greater part in the CBOT's future successes."

Durkin joins fellow officers Carol Burke, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff, and William Farrow, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer in the Office of the President, reporting directly to President and CEO Bernard Dan.

About this new role, Durkin said, "To be a part of this first-rate management team responsible for reinvigorating this great exchange is an honor and privilege. In the last few years, the CBOT has had to make some very difficult decisions and implement many critical changes to position itself as an aggressive competitor in this new global marketplace. Any contributions I have made towards this effort would not have been possible without the hard work of our talented and dedicated members, staff and executive team. I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that this new position will bring, and I believe if we continue to work together with the same intensity and commitment we will be ready for the future."

A 21-year employee, Durkin was Senior Vice President, Exchange Operations in March of 2003 and was responsible for ensuring operational readiness and efficiencies for all systems and operations that support the trading of CBOT products. Most recently he was assigned the responsibility of the planning and implementation of CBOT's new electronic trading platform and the CME/CBOT Common Clearing Link.

Previously, Durkin was Senior Vice President and Administrator, Office of Investigations and Audits. During his service in OIA, Durkin was responsible for ensuring market integrity of all members and member firms, employing computerized programs to monitor and enforce financial and trade practice compliance with the CBOT rules and regulations.

Durkin also manages the business implementation and deployment of the Exchange's order routing system and handheld devices, which are designed to enhance the efficiencies and effectiveness of the CBOT's open auction market.
