Date 18/05/2001

David J. Vitale, President and CEO of the Chicago Board of Trade, today announced the appointments of Bernard W. Dan and William M. Farrow, III, as Executive Vice Presidents. They will join Vitale and Carol A. Burke, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, in the Office of the President. Vitale also announced the formation of the CBOT®’s four new business units: open outcry, screen-based, real estate services, and data services.

Vitale said, “I am pleased that Bernie and Bill have agreed to join our senior management team. Their appointments show the CBOT® can and will continue to attract highly qualified individuals to help position the Exchange for future growth and success.

“Bernie brings to the CBOT® a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge in the futures industry at a time when developing new products and markets, as well as servicing the needs of our customers is paramount. I also have had the pleasure to work together with Bill at Bank One. His technology and marketing expertise will prove invaluable to our members and customers as we enhance the efficiency of our open outcry markets and work to strengthen our electronic trading platform.

“Bill and Bernie will bring a new level of energy and an outside perspective to the Exchange at a critical time. They understand the sense of urgency we must operate under if the CBOT® is to achieve its goals, and they are prepared, along with the rest of our employees, to meet the challenges that lie ahead.”

Mr. Dan will manage the open outcry and screen-based business units, as well as the CBOT®’s product development and marketing initiatives. He currently serves as President and CEO of Cargill Investor Services Inc. (“CIS”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cargill Inc. Mr. Dan joined CIS in 1985 and held various operational positions with the company both in Chicago and in Singapore, where he served as Director of Cargill Investor Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. from November 1994 until April 1997. He returned to Chicago and was named Vice President and Head of Global Execution, a position he held until named President and CEO in 1998. In addition to serving as a Governor and First Vice Chairman of the Board of Trade Clearing Corporation, Mr. Dan has been active in the futures industry, both on exchange committees and industry user groups. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota.

Mr. Farrow will be in charge of the CBOT®’s data services business unit and all exchange information technology efforts. He has worked with Bank One Corporation in Chicago since 1986. From 2000 to the present, he served as Senior Vice President, Head of Large Corporate eBusiness at the bank, where he was responsible for starting the bank’s e-business team for large corporate, government and internet markets. From 1999 to 2000, Mr. Farrow was Senior Vice President and Head of Treasury Management Sales where he managed a national sales force. He was Senior Vice President and Program Executive from 1996 to 1999, where he led a $90 million project for creating an enterprise customer information platform for First Chicago NBD, Bank One’s predecessor. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Farrow served as Senior Vice President and Head of Marketing for the Commercial Bank, where he developed a workstation platform that won the 1995 Computerworld Smithsonian Award. Mr. Farrow received a Master of Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana College.
