CBOT 10-Year Agency Contracts Hit Critical Milestone -- 20,000 Daily Open Interest Level Fifteen Days In A Row

Date 26/04/2000

The Chicago Board of Trade announced today that CBOT members have passed another critical milestone in the growth of the 10-Year agency note futures contract. CBOT members have traded above the 20,000 open interest level 15 days in a row, and set open interest records on the last five trading days.

The most recent record was set yesterday, and brings open interest to 29,742 contracts. The CBOT plans to launch 5-Year agency note contracts at a later date, though not May 3 as previously announced. Customers have requested that the 5-Year agency launch date follow a successful rollover in the 10-Year contracts, and after potential reconstruction of the agency pits to facilitate increased order flow. The CBOT's Market Maker program, an aggressive and proactive program to encourage the new contracts' continued growth, will begin in the coming weeks.
