CBOE'S 2005 Year-To-Date Volume Surpasses 2004's Record Total; Three Of The Top Four Busiest Days In CBOE History Occurred During The Week Of October 17-21

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced today that 2005 trading volume at CBOE has already surpassed 2004's record annual volume. Through Friday, October 21, CBOE's year-to-date volume stood at 372,002,569 contracts traded, eclipsing last year's all-time record annual volume of 361,086,774 contracts traded. There are still 48 trading days remaining in 2005.Through the first nine months of 2005, CBOE's total trading volume is up 28% over the year-ago levels, with an average daily volume of 1,772,442 contracts.

In addition to the new annual trading benchmark, CBOE also reported that three of the top four busiest single trading days in CBOE history occurred during the week of Monday, October 17 through Friday, October 21. For the week, more than 14.0 million contracts traded, making it one of the busiest weeks in CBOE's 32-year history. The top ten highest single trading days in CBOE history have all occurred in 2005, including six of the top eight during October.

#8 -- Wednesday, October 12: 2,993,424 contracts
