March highlights at CBOE included:
A new monthly volume record for options on the S&P 500 Index (SPX) was established as March volume totaled 4,382,458 contracts traded, surpassing the previous record of 4,075,164 contracts set in January 2004. SPX is CBOE's most-actively traded index option.
A new monthly volume record for options on the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock (QQQ) was set with 3,704,550 contracts in March, besting the old record of 2,900,180 from January 2004.
March volume of 328,905 contracts in iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM) also set a new monthly volume record at CBOE, while the March volume of 94,839 contracts in the Russell 2000 Index (RUT) ranked #2 in all-time RUT monthly volume.
During March, volume in stock option classes (equities) rose 54% as over 19 million contracts traded, while index options rose 31% with nearly 14 million contracts traded.
