VIX closed today at 12.54, up .95, and just off its high for the day of 12.59. The low today was 11.75. VIX options trade on the February expiration cycle with May, June, August, November and February expirations currently available. Trading was most active today in the August and February options.
For April, average daily volume in VIX options was 15,052 contracts, 57% above March volume-the first full month of trading in VIX options. Total volume in VIX options during April was 285,994 contracts. Open interest on Friday, the last trading day of April, stood at 351,146 contracts, up 121% from March 2006. VIX options were launched February 24, 2006.
