In addition to the new SPX record, CBOE also announced that total exchange volume on Friday, September 16th was 3,043,405 contracts, which ranked as the second busiest single trading day in CBOE's 32-year history, trailing only the 3,969,548 contracts traded on April 15, 2005. Eight of the top 10 highest single trading days in CBOE history occurred in 2005.
Through the first eight months of 2005, CBOE's year-to-date average daily volume has been 1.75 million contracts traded, which is 24% ahead of 2004, a record year at CBOE. Meanwhile, total CBOE volume through August stood at 293.8 million contracts traded, an increase of 25% over 2004. Thus far in 2005, CBOE has set 33 exchange-wide and individual product volume records.
