CBOE Receives SEC Approval To Launch CBOEdirect HyTS The Hybrid Trading System - Announces June 12 Start DateThe Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) on May 30, 2003 received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the Hybrid Trading System, CBOEdirect HyTS TM. Implementation will begin on the CBOE trading floor on June 12, 2003 in Harmony Gold (HMY) options. CBOE expects to have the most actively traded option classes, which account for 80% of U.S. options volume, available on its Hybrid Trading System by year-end.

"The CBOE Hybrid Trading System will revolutionize options trading by combining the speed, efficiencies and transparency of a screen-based trading system with the liquidity and superior price discovery of a competitive, open outcry marketplace," said CBOE Chairman and CEO William J. Brodsky. "CBOEdirect HyTS effectively provides a unique 'best of both worlds' trading environment that will distinguish CBOE from all-electronic or purely floor-based exchanges."

CBOEdirect HyTS, with CBOEdirect as its trade engine, offers "point-and-click" execution against displayed quotes, individual market maker streaming quotes, and open access to the order book for customer, firm, and broker dealer orders, as well as the opportunity for price improvement in the open outcry arena.

In addition, the CBOE HyTS Terminal provides customers with a multi-functional universal access trading solution. CBOE partnered with Belzberg Technologies, Inc. to create a workstation that offers trading desks point-and-click electronic access to CBOE markets, as well as order routing capabilities to other options, stock, and futures exchanges. The CBOE HyTS Terminal offers the most sophisticated order submission, routing, and management technology available today.
