CBOE Introduces Advanced Strategies Course for Experienced Investors in Its Online Learning Center

Date 03/07/2001

The Options Institute, the education arm of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), long recognized as the leader in options investor education, has announced the addition of an Advanced Strategies course in its Online Learning Center. The new course curriculum includes self-guided tutorials on selling puts, vertical spreads, options pricing, and buying stocks with a ratio call spread, as well as expert insight and analysis from Options Institute instructors. The Learning Center can be found by visiting CBOE's home page, www.CBOE.com, and selecting the Learning Center tab.

"The Advanced Strategies course was added in direct response to requests from investors who have used the Online Learning Center courses to educate themselves, and felt they were ready to go to a higher level in their understanding of options," said Debra Peters, Vice President, Options Institute. "These tutorials, all offered free of charge, have been designed to help investors make sound decisions and set realistic expectations when using options in their portfolios."

Each module in the Advanced Strategies course takes between 20-30 minutes to complete, and ends with a short quiz. Key terminology is highlighted in red; rolling a mouse over the word elicits a pop-up definition, and a complete online glossary is accessible from every page.

In addition to the Advanced Strategies course, there are two earlier courses: Options Basics, and People and Electronics: How a Trade is Made. Options Institute instructors are also currently developing an Index Options course for the Online Learning Center, scheduled for release in fall 2001. Supplementing the online courses, the CBOE Learning Center features CBOE's popular Options Toolbox software and the CBOE Bookstore, which offers a complete selection of options-related books.

CBOE, the world's largest options marketplace and the creator of listed options, is regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). For additional information about the CBOE and its products, access the CBOE website at http://www.cboe.com.
