CBOE Appoints Edward J. Joyce As President And Chief Operating Officer

Date 06/04/2000

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) today announced that its Board of Directors has elected Edward J. Joyce as president and chief operating officer of CBOE, succeeding Charles J. (Chuck) Henry, effective July 1, 2000. Henry, who had announced plans for retirement several months ago, will serve in an advisory capacity until the end of the current calendar year.

Joyce, who has held various positions with the Exchange for 25 years, most recently was named an Executive Vice President in charge of Business Development, a division newly formed last year as part of a major strategic reorganization. In that capacity, Joyce, 48, was responsible for coordinating various key activities central to relationship management, including marketing, member trading services and The Options Institute, the educational arm of CBOE. Joyce, who ran CBOE's trading operations for 21 years, is credited with pioneering many of the Exchange's technological and procedural innovations, which contributed to positioning CBOE as the world's largest and most technologically-advanced options marketplace in the world. Joyce has served on the Board of the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) since 1991.

"Ed brings 25 years of 'hands-on' involvement with CBOE's trading floor and daily, widespread interaction with members, member firms, staff and customers to the presidency," said William J. Brodsky, CBOE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "He will provide the practical insight, broad experience and leadership skills essential to preparing CBOE to meet the challenges of the 21st century."

Henry has served as president and chief operating officer for CBOE since 1979. During his tenure, CBOE saw six-fold growth in volume and revenues, the successful transition to competitive deregulated markets and development of the most advanced technology in the industry. Henry came to CBOE from the Pacific Stock Exchange (PSE), where he served two years as president and chief operating officer and two years as chairman and chief executive officer of P.C. Service Corporation, a systems service organization wholly owned by PSE.

"We will miss Chuck's invaluable experience and expertise," said Brodsky. "He is a true market professional whose vast contribution to building CBOE into the industry leader it is today cannot be overstated."

CBOE, the world's largest options marketplace and the creator of listed options, is regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). For additional information about the CBOE and its products, access the CBOE site on the World Wide Web at http://www.cboe.com.
