CBOE Announces Reorganization / Promotions

Date 10/05/2000

Chicago Board Options Exchange Chairman and CEO William J. Brodsky today announced a major reorganization stemming from the previously announced retirement of long time President Charles J. Henry and the promotion of Edward J. Joyce to succeed Henry as the Exchange's President and Chief Operating Officer as of July 1, 2000.

Edward L. Provost, a twenty-five year veteran of the CBOE, has been promoted to Executive Vice President. Provost will lead the Exchange's Business Development Division, which includes the domestic and international marketing functions, e-commerce and related Internet activities, the Exchange's member trading services and relationship management functions, market quality assurance, as well as the administration and oversight of CBOE's designated primary market maker program, the Exchange's membership registration area and The Options Institute - the educational arm of the CBOE. "In his career at CBOE, Ed has been involved in virtually every aspect of the operation of the Exchange. We are fortunate to have someone with his depth of knowledge and experience to take on added leadership responsibility at this critical time in our business," said Brodsky. In addition, Gerald T. O'Connell has been promoted to Executive Vice President. Mr. O'Connell has been Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer in charge of the Exchange's Systems Division for the last seven years.

"As the industry grows more reliant upon the use of advanced trading technologies, CBOE must continue to be at the forefront in the development of systems that support floor trading as well as screen-based trading alternatives. Gerry and his team of systems professionals are, in our opinion, simply the best in the business," said Brodsky.

CBOE, regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is the pioneer of listed options and the world's largest options marketplace. For additional information about the CBOE and its products, visit CBOE's web site at http://www.cboe.com.
