Capital Markets Institute (Canada) White Paper Release On Securities Regulation Reform

Date 07/10/2002

Canada faces a diminished role in global capital markets unless a more effective securities regulatory structure is identified and implemented, according to a paper to be released on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 by the Capital Markets Institute (CMI) at the University of Toronto and the Canadian Foundation for Investor Education (CFIE).

The CMI and CFIE will release a paper tomorrow on reform of Canada's securities regulation regime. The paper will analyze past reform attempts, current reform proposals, identify the criteria by which any reform proposal must be assessed today as well as provide recommendations on specific areas in need of further study in order for policymakers to make changes that will assist in the development of an efficient and competitive securities regulatory system. The paper and its executive summary will be available on the CMI website at www.utcmi.ca. A French version of the paper will be available in 2 weeks.
