The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) today announced the appointment of Robert Udall Glazier – a 28-year communications veteran in the public and private industries – as the pension fund’s new Deputy Executive Officer for External Affairs.
Glazier will oversee CalPERS public affairs, governmental affairs and stakeholder relations programs. He begins his post on July 1 and will report to CalPERS Chief Executive Officer Anne Stausboll. Glazier replaces Patricia K. Macht who is retiring at the end of the month.
“Robert brings a wealth of experience in governmental legislative affairs, public policy and communications,” said Stausboll. “He is a welcomed addition to our executive management team and will help to ensure consistent and timely delivery of communication to our members, employers and stakeholders.”
Glazier comes to CalPERS from the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency where he has served as Deputy Secretary of External Affairs for the last four and a half years. He is responsible for planning, implementation and management of community relations strategies with elected officials, business partners and stakeholders for the agency, its 14 Departments and their combined budgets of more than $18 billion. He also served from 2005-2007 as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Chief Deputy Director of Communications coordinating and managing communications for the State’s more than 100 agencies, departments, boards and commissions.
His previous experience includes senior positions such as Deputy Secretary of Communications, Legislation and Marketing for the California Department of Veterans Affairs, and private sector experience as Senior Director for Global Corporate Communications and Analyst Relations at 3COM Corporation.
Glazier earned his Juris Doctorate degree from South Texas College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Brigham Young University.
