As Chief of the Office of Governmental Affairs, Hammond will manage a staff of legislative analysts and serve as chief legislative advocate for CalPERS’ state and federal legislative programs.
“Lisa Marie Hammond has tremendous experience and expertise in a broad range of CalPERS issues and programs,” said Robert Walton, CalPERS Assistant Executive Officer for Governmental Affairs. “Her experience and special knowledge of CalPERS programs and policies make her an especially effective advocate for sound public policy.”
For the past five years, Hammond has been a staff counsel and senior staff counsel in the CalPERS Legal Office. In her capacity, she served as attorney liaison to the CalPERS Actuarial and Employer Services Branch, Member Services Division, Judges’ and Legislators’ Retirement Systems, Supplemental Savings Program, and Fiscal Services and Human Resources Divisions, providing legal advice to CalPERS staff and management.
In addition, Hammond was the tax liaison in the CalPERS Legal Office, providing legal guidance on a broad range of employee benefit and tax compliance issues. She was also the primary legal contact on both state and federal legislation, working closely with the Office of Governmental Affairs.
Prior to joining the CalPERS legal staff, Hammond was a staff counsel in the State Treasurer’s Office and worked in the CalPERS Human Resources Division as a personnel management analyst and return-to-work coordinator.
Hammond is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, with a degree in business finance. She received her law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
Hammond fills the vacancy that was created when her predecessor Karen Neuwald was appointed to the Public Employment Relations Board.
