Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in September 2003 declined to 1079 as opposed to 1089 in the previous month.

Two new companies were listed this month on the exchange with total capitalization of LE 69 million.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in September 2003 amounted to 22 days with total value traded of LE 2,331.5 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,064.5 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 96%, 4% and 0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 266.9 million, which represents 11% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to August 2003, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,749 million, of which shares represented 79%, bonds 21% and funds 0.0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 115.8 million i.e. 6% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 1,864.9 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 157.63 million securities.

During September 2003, 142,051 transactions were concluded with an average of 6,457 trades per day, as opposed to 112,624 transactions and an average of 5,363 trades per day in August 2003.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, gained 16.79% in September to reach 971.58 points and witnessed a 100.72% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 18.18% increase in September, to close at 108.57 points on 30/9/2003, and a 51.23% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 61.27% of the total volume of shares traded and 62.72% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of September, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Egyptian Financial Group-Hermes Holding Company (+68%), Egypt for Poultry (+54%), Egyptian Workers Bank (+46%), Orascom Telecom Holding (OT) (+38%), Orascom Projects & Tourist Development (OPTD) (+32%), Pfizer Egypt (+30%), Egyptian Satellites (NileSat) (+29%), Sinai Cement (+28%), Orascom Hotel Holdings (OHH) (+27%) and Misr Beni Suef Cement (+27%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Rotopack Misr (-45%), Pyramisa Hotels (-26%), Arab Cotton Ginning (-23%), Arab Ceramics (Aracemco) (-20%), Export Development Trading Co. (-20%), Misr Duty Free Shops (-18%), Egyptians Abroad for Investment & Development (-17%), Export Development Bank of Egypt (EDBE) (-15%), National Societe Generale Bank (NSGB) (-13%) and El Kahera Housing (-12%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 158.34 billion as of end of September 2003 compared to LE 153.42 billion in August 2003, representing a slight 3.2% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.77 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.37 billion for government bonds at the end of September 2003.

Foreign Participation

In September, foreign investors participated with 28% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 173.3 million.
