Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in October 2004 decreased to 789 companies as opposed to 790 in the previous month.

There were no new listed companies this month.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in October 2004 amounted to 20 days with total value traded of LE 2,936.02 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,344.03 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 99.95%, 0.05% and 0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 591.99 million, which represents 20% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to September 2004, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 3,791.84 million, of which shares represented 99.95%, bonds 0.05% and funds 0.0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 658.57 million i.e. 15% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 4,450.41 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 83.94 million securities.

During October 2004, 109,623 transactions were concluded with an average of 5,481 trades per day, as opposed to 178,236 transactions and an average of 8,102 trades per day in September 2004.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, witnessed a 9.87% increase in October to reach 2296.06 points and witnessed a 114.25% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 9.35% increase in October, to close at 252.34 points on 31/10/2004, and a 109.81% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 56.02% of the total volume of shares traded and 76.24% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of October, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Alexandria National Iron & Steel (+53%), National Gas Company (NATGAS) (+33%), National Societe Generale Bank (NSGB) (+28%), Egyptian Chemical Industries (Kima) (+21%), Alexandria Cement (+21%), Housing & Development Bank (+20%), Alexandria Commercial & Maritime Bank (+16%), Saudi Egyptian Investment & Finance (+16%), Commercial International Bank (Egypt) (+16%) and Eastern Tobacco (+15%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Export Development Trading Co. (-21%), El Ahli Investment and Development (-18%), Nile Matches (-16%), Canal Shipping Agencies (-15%), Orascom Hotel Holdings (OHH) (-14%), El Ezz Porcelain (Gemma) (-14%), Six of October Development & Investment (SODIC) (-14%), The Egyptian Saudi Co. for Medical Manufacturing (MASCO) (-12%), Mena Touristic & Real Estate Investment (-11%) and Misr Chemical Industries (-10%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 211.16 billion as of end of October 2004 compared to LE 203.63 billion in September 2004, representing a 3.7% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.32 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.65 billion for government bonds at the end of October 2004.

Foreign Participation

In October, foreign investors participated with 31.39% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 225.26 million.
