Total number of listed companies on CASE in October 2003 remained 1079 as in the previous month.
Three new companies were listed this month on the exchange with total capitalization of LE 22 million.
Turnover
Total number of trading days in October 2003 amounted to 21 days with total value traded of LE 2,455.6 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,931.7 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 91%, 9% and 0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 523.9 million, which represents 21% of total value traded for the month.
This is in comparison to September 2003, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,064.5 million, of which shares represented 96%, bonds 4% and funds 0.0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 266.9 million i.e. 11% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 2,331.5 million.
Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 97.10 million securities.
During October 2003, 106,988 transactions were concluded with an average of 5,095 trades per day, as opposed to 142,051 transactions and an average of 6,457 trades per day in September 2003.
Indices
CASE 30 Price, the official market index, gained 10.30% in October to reach 1071.68 points and witnessed a 120.59% increase on YoY.
However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 10.78% increase in October, to close at 120.27 points on 31/10/2003, and a 73.82% increase on a YoY basis.

Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 160.59 billion as of end of October 2003 compared to LE 158.34 billion in September 2003, representing a slight 1.42% increase.
The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.74 billion for corporate bonds and LE 10.23 billion for government bonds at the end of October 2003.
Foreign Participation
In October, foreign investors participated with 23% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 47.96 million.
