Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in May 2006 increased to 695 companies as opposed to 694 in the previous month.

There were four new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of LE 730 million.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in May 2006 amounted to 22 days with total value traded of LE 23,936.83 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 23,013.37 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 95.89%, 4.11% and 0.00% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 923.46 million, which represents 4% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to April 2006, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 20,450.18 million, of which shares represented 98.46%, bonds 1.54% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 1,194.66 million i.e. 6% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 21,644.84 million.

Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 582.94 million securities.

During May 2006, 553,149 transactions were concluded with an average of 25,143 trades per day, as opposed to 437,078 transactions and an average of 25,710 trades per day in April 2006.

Indices

CASE 30 Price index, the official market index, witnessed a 19.15% decrease in May 2006 to reach 5363.57 points and witnessed a 25.04% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 17.22% decrease in May, to close at 635.44 points on 31/05/2006, and a 26.40% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 75.98% of the total volume of shares traded and 73.22% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of May, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Egypt Japan Steel Works (+306%), Delta International Bank (+22%), Tenth of Ramadan Spinning Industries (+17%), Development & Engineering Consultants (+10%), International Agricultural Products (+4%), United Arab Shipping (+3%), Misr Duty Free Shops (+3%), Pyramisa Hotels (+3%), Alexandria Spinning & Weaving (SPINALEX) (+3%) and Alexandria Commercial & Maritime Bank (+2%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Housing & Development Bank (-49%), South Valley Cement (-49%), Six of October Development & Investment (SODIC) (-38%), United Housing & Development (-38%), Egyptian Kuwaiti Holding (-37%), Amoun (-37%), El Shams Housing & Urbanization (-36%), El Nasr Clothes & Textiles (Kabo) (-35%), Arab Gulf Investment (-35%) and El Ezz Porcelain (Gemma) (-35%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 404.53 billion as of end of May 2006 compared to LE 442.84 billion in April 2006, representing a 8.7% decrease.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.91 billion for corporate bonds and LE 59.46 billion for government bonds at the end of May 2006 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In May 2006, foreign investors participated with 26.87% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 795 million.
