Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in May 2005 increased to 767 companies as opposed to 765 in the previous month.

Two Companies were listed this month with total capitalization of LE 966.5 million.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in May 2005 amounted to 21 days with total value traded of LE 9,176.64 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 8,383.68 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 89.51%, 10.49% and 0.00% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 792.96 million, which represents 9% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to April 2005, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 7,904.78 million, of which shares represented 89.35%, bonds 10.65% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 1,102.68 million i.e. 12% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 9,007.46 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 197.76 million securities.

During May 2005, 208,531 transactions were concluded with an average of 9,930 trades per day, as opposed to 194,381 transactions and an average of 11,434 trades per day in April 2005.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, witnessed a 2.45% increase in May 2005 to reach 4289.34 points and witnessed a 179.39% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 4.26% increase in May, to close at 502.71 points on 31/05/2005, and a 225.83% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 66.15% of the total volume of shares traded and 74.66% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of May, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Raya Holding for Technology and Communications (+263%), Misr America International Bank (+176%), South Valley Cement (+127%), Cairo Medical Tower Laboratory (Alborg Laboratory) (+49%), Credit Agricole Indosuez (Egypt) (+41%), Egyptian for Tourism Resorts (+27%), Egyptian Commercial Bank (+27%), Cairo Oils & Soap (+27%), ASEC for Cement Co. (+20%) and National Navigation (14%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Nasr Company for Civil Works (-22%), United Arab Shipping (-22%), Giza General Contracting (-20%), Orascom Hotel Holdings (OHH) (-19%), El Nasr Transformers (El Maco) (-18%), El Nasr Clothes & Textiles (Kabo) (-17%), Paint & Chemicals Industries (Pachin) (-17%), Nile Cotton Ginning (-17%), Egyptian Electrical Cables (-17%) and Medinet Nasr Housing (-17%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 304.66 billion as of end of May 2005 compared to LE 300.72 billion in April 2005, representing a 1.3% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 6.74 billion for corporate bonds and LE 28.88 billion for government bonds at the end of May 2005 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In May 2005, foreign investors participated with 40.19% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 313 million.
