Turnover
Total number of trading days in May 2003 amounted to 19 days with total value traded of LE 1,629.7 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,510.5 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 86.3%, 13.7% and 0.0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 119.2 million, which represents 7% of total value traded for the month.
This is in comparison to April 2003, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,957.0 million, of which shares represented 83.5%, bonds 16.5% and funds 0.0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 577.6 million i.e. 20% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 2,534.6 million.
Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 108.79 million securities.
During May 2003, 117,139 transactions were concluded with an average of 6,165 trades per day, as opposed to 86,836 transactions and an average of 4,342 trades per day in April 2003.
Indices
CASE 30 Price, the official market index, gained 15.6% in May to reach 741.88 points and witnessed a 55.4% increase on YoY.
However, the S&P/IFCG index witnessed a 10.3% rise in May, to close at 45.44 points on 31/5/2003, and a 6.7% increase on a YoY basis.
