Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in June 2003 declined to 1123 as opposed to 1151 in the previous month.

One new company was listed this month on the exchange with total capitalization of LE 6.0 million.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in June 2003 amounted to 22 days with total value traded of LE 5,159.6 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 4,065.8 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 99.3%, 0.7% and 0.0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 1,093.8 million, which represents 21% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to May 2003, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,510.5 million, of which shares represented 86.3%, bonds 13.7% and funds 0.0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 119.2 million i.e. 7% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 1,629.7 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 113.3 million securities.

During June 2003, 118,629 transactions were concluded with an average of 5,392 trades per day, as opposed to 117,139 transactions and an average of 6,165 trades per day in May 2003.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, gained 4.6% in June to reach 775.87 points and witnessed a 64.4% increase on YoY.

However, the S&P/IFCG index witnessed a 1.6% rise in June, to close at 46.18 points on 30/6/2003, and a 10.1% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 67.14% of the total volume of shares traded and 86.14% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of June, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) International Company for Gum & Confectionary (Incogum) (+1058%), Cairo Medical Tower Laboratory (Alborg Laboratory) (+650%), El Nasr Dried Agricultural Products (+160%), MIDOR (+45%), Egyptian Electrical Cables (+34%), El Ezz Steel Rebars (+32%), Egyptian Contracting (Mokhtar Ibrahim) (+28%), Six October Development & Investment - SODIC (+27%), Ceramic & Porcelain (+26%) and Engineering Industries (ICON) (+25%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Manufacturing of Transportation Vehicles (MCV) (-90%), Delta Industries (IDEAL) (-76%), Arab Pharmaceutical Glass (-74%), Alex Group Trade & Agencies (-50%), Arab Cotton Ginning (-17%), Export Development Trading (-14%), Egyptians Abroad for Investment & Development (-14%), El Watany Bank of Egypt (-14%), Helwan Portland Cement (-14%) and Mena Touristic & Real Estate Investment (-12%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 150.21 billion as of end of June 2003 compared to LE 146.06 billion in May 2003, representing a slight 2.8% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.63 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.37 billion for government bonds at the end of June 2003.

Foreign Participation

In June, foreign investors participated with 9.4% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 31.8 million.
