Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in July 2003 declined to 1090 as opposed to 1123 in the previous month.

No new companies were listed this month on the exchange.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in July 2003 amounted to 21 days with total value traded of LE 2,545.5 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,199.1 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 84%, 16% and 0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 346.4 million, which represents 21% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to June 2003, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 4,065.8 million, of which shares represented 99.3%, bonds 0.7% and funds 0.0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 1,093.8 million i.e. 21% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 1,093.8 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 143.3 million securities.

During July 2003, 137,888 transactions were concluded with an average of 6,566 trades per day, as opposed to 118,629 transactions and an average of 5,392 trades per day in June 2003.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, lost 4.8% in July to reach 738.49 points and witnessed a 58.2% increase on YoY.

However, the S&P/IFCG index witnessed a 4.7% drop in July, to close at 44.01 points on 31/7/2003, and a 6.3% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 70.30% of the total volume of shares traded and 66.93% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of July, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Export Development Trading (+154%), United Arab Shipping (+139%), United Pharmacists (+137%), Pharco Pharmaceuticals (+82%), International Company for Leasing (IncoLease) (+50%), Aventis Pharma (+45%), Natural Gas & Mining Project (Egypt Gas) (+42%), Misr Duty Free Shops (+24%), Technopak (+23%) and Engineering Industries (ICON) (+20%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Amigo Real Estate Investment (-95%), Egyptian Jordanian Co. for Mineral Industries (-49%), Egyptian Kuwaiti Holding (-41%), El Nasr Clothes & Textiles (-26%), Egyptian Fibers (-24%), Egyptian American Bank (EAB) (-18%), Universal (Unipack) (-15%), Egyptian Saudi Finance Bank (-13%), Misr Fertilizers (-12%) and Ceramic & Porcelain (-11%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 148.23 billion as of end of July 2003 compared to LE 150.21 billion in June 2003, representing a slight 1.3% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.69 billion for corporate bonds and LE 13.48 billion for government bonds at the end of July 2003.

Foreign Participation

In July, foreign investors participated with 17.4% of the total market value traded with net outflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 61.8 million.
