Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in January 2008 decreased to 430 companies as opposed to 435 in the previous month.

There was one new listed company this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 17.78 million (LE 97.78 million).

Turnover

Total number of trading days in January 2008 amounted to 20 days with total value traded of US$ 19,857.32 million (LE 109,215.24 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 19,424.12 million (LE 106,832.67 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 99.23%, 0.77% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 433.20 million (LE 2,382.57 million), which represents 2% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to December 2007, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 4,982 million (LE 27,402million), of which shares represented 98.98%, bonds 1.02% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 1,399 million (LE 7,692 million) i.e. 22% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 6,381 million (LE 35,094 million).

Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 1,778.65 million securities.

During January 2008, 1,172,777 transactions were concluded with an average of 58,639 trades per day, as opposed to 807,919 transactions and an average of 42,522 trades per day in December 2007.

Indices

CASE 30 price index, the official market index, witnessed a 2.20% decrease in January 2008 to reach 10318.06 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 54.56%.

Likewise, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 2.31% decrease in January, to close at 2160.99 points 31/01/2008, and a 49.13% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 81.26% of the total value & 62.55% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of January, the top five gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Orascom Building Materials Holding (+55,430 %), Minapharm Pharmaceuticals (+884%), Contact Car Trading (+163%), National Company for Maize Products (+152%) and Egyptian for Developing Building Materials (+120%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Alexandria Containers and Goods (-26%), Universal for Paper and Packaging Materials (Unipack) (-25%), National Navigation (-25%), Ahli United Bank-Egypt (-24%) and Orascom Hotel Holdings (OHH) (-18%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 151.4 billion (LE 832.8 billion) as of end of January 2008 compared to US$ 139.7 billion (LE 768.3 billion) in December 2007, representing a 8.4% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 918.1 million (LE 5.0 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 12.9 billion (LE 70.9 billion) for government bonds at the end of January 2008 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In January 2008, foreign investors participated with 45.22% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 13.0 billion (LE 71.7 billion).

Worth mentioning that this month has witnessed the 100% acquisition of Orascom Building Materials Holding by Lafrage Company, in a deal worth LE 71 billion .
