Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in December 2004 increased to 795 companies as opposed to 793 in the previous month.

Four companies were listed this month with total capitalization of LE 1.02 billion.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in December 2004 amounted to 22 days with total value traded of LE 6,528.97 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 5,739.79 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 76.17%, 23.83% and 0.0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 789.17 million, which represents 12% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to November 2004, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 4,310.56 million, of which shares represented 73.71%, bonds 26.27% and funds 0.02%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 506.56 million i.e. 11% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 4,817.12 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 176.16 million securities.

During December 2004, 183,948 transactions were concluded with an average of 8,361 trades per day, as opposed to 157,332 transactions and an average of 7,867 trades per day in November 2004.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, witnessed a 8.72% increase in December to reach 2567.99 points and witnessed a 122.24% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 11.72% increase in December, to close at 283.74 points on 30/12/2004, and a 118.78% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 63.41% of the total volume of shares traded and 65.12% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of December, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Egyptian Railways Equipment (SEMAF) (+382%), Extracted Oils (+39%), Upper Egypt Contracting (+37%), United Housing & Development (+21%), South Valley Cement (+20%), Alexandria Spinning & Weaving (SPINALEX) (+20%), Alexandria National Iron & Steel (+19%), El Ezz Steel Rebars (+18%), Orascom Telecom Holding (OT) (+17%) and National Cement (+16%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) Tawakol Electrical Company (-41%), National Glass & Crystal Co. (-25%), Commercial International Investment Company (CIIC) (-14%), Nile Matches (-14%), Development & Engineering Consultants (-13%), Export Development Trading Co. (-12%), United Arab Shipping (-11%), National Development Bank (-11%), Orascom Hotel Holdings (OHH) (-10%) and Six of October Development & Investment (SODIC) (-10%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 233.54 billion as of end of December 2004 compared to LE 223.83 billion in November 2004, representing a 4% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.32 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.54 billion for government bonds at the end of December 2004.

Foreign Participation

In December, foreign investors participated with 31.88% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 448.26 million.
