There were three new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 10 million (LE 57.5 million).
Turnover
Total number of trading days in August 2006 amounted to 23 days with total value traded of US$ 3,958 million (LE 22,759 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 3,794 million (LE 21,817 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 97.77%, 2.23% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 164 million (LE 942 million), which represents 4% of total value traded for the month.
This is in comparison to July 2006, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 3,306 million (LE 19,007 million), of which shares represented 97.44%, bonds 2.56% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 141 million (LE 809 million) i.e. 4% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 3,446 million (LE 19,816 million).Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 853 million securities.
During August 2006, 681,260 transactions were concluded with an average of 29,620 trades per day, as opposed to 654,830 transactions and an average of 31,182 trades per day in July 2006.
Indices
CASE 30 Price index, the official market index, witnessed a 9.84% increase in August 2006 to reach 6232.75 points and witnessed a 29.43% increase on YoY.
However, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 9.31% increase in August, to close at 1394.49 points on 31/08/2006, and a 33.97% increase on a YoY basis.

During the month of August, the top five gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Prime Securities Stock Brokers (+894%), Arab International Company (AICO) (+750%), Prime Investments Fund Managers (+726%), Egyptian Electronics Technology Company (+344%) and Prime Capital Portfolio Managers (+167%).
The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Housing & Development Bank - Less Rights 50 Coupon (-33%), National Glass & Crystal Co. (-18%), Housing & Development Bank (-12%), Egyptian Saudi Poultry (-11%) and Alexandria Commercial & Maritime Bank (-10%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 80.25 billion (LE 461.46 billion) as of end of August 2006 compared to US$ 74.19 billion (LE 426.58 billion) in July 2006, representing a 8.2% increase.
The bond capitalization recorded US$ 0.97 billion (LE 5.59 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 10.42 billion (LE 59.94 billion) for government bonds at the end of August 2006 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).
Foreign Participation
In August 2006, foreign investors participated with 26.49% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 274 million (LE 1,574 million).
